  • January 2021 Provision

    Fri 18 Dec 2020

    18.12.2020

    Dear Parents and Carers,

Once again circumstances are changing and moving at a fast pace.  Following the letter from Claire Homard, I would like to let you know our intentions here at Ysgol Cae’r Nant.

The 4th of January is an INSET day.  From the 5th January to the 8th January will be blended (online) learning at home.  As stated a decision will be made about the week beginning 11th January as soon as possible in the new year, and I will inform you as soon as a decision has been made.

Free school meal payments will continue to be paid into bank accounts.

From Wednesday 6th January we will re-open Hub provision at Ysgol Cae’r Nant, this will be for the children of critical workers (a full list is available on the WAG website).  We ask that you fill in the attached form and return it to office@ycn.flintshire.sch.uk with proof of your critical worker status and rota for the week beginning 4th January, we cannot process the application without these supporting documents.  This email address will not be monitored over the Christmas period, notification of a successful Hub place will be between Monday 4th January from 10 a.m. and Tuesday 5th January 1:30 p.m.  If an application has not been received by noon on Tuesday, unfortunately we will not be able to allocate a place.

The Hub will be situated in our hall and will run from 8:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.  Pupils who attend the hub will need to bring a drink and a packed lunch from home.

I hope you all stay safe and well over the festive period.  Enjoy every minute with your children, quality time spent together is what they will remember.  Here is hoping 2021 improves for everyone as we progress throughout the year.

    Kind regards and best wishes,

    N Kilpatrick

  • Announcement from Claire Homard 18/12/2020

    Fri 18 Dec 2020

    17th December 2020

    Dear Parents and Carers

    School Arrangements for January 2021

In light of the Welsh Government’s announcement for new restrictions for Wales after Christmas there have also been national decisions taken about the provision of education when schools reopen in January.

Welsh Government has advised local authorities that a more flexible approach will be needed to account for possible increases in the transmission of the virus, particularly after the Christmas holidays where there will have been greater mixing between families. They have advised schools to make greater use of remote learning approaches in the first few weeks of the new year, with an expectation that all schools will be back to delivering face-to-face learning by the 18th January, unless exceptional circumstances exist.

Flintshire County Council has taken the decision, in consultation with its Headteachers and in line with Welsh Government advice, that Flintshire schools will not reopen for face-to-face learning for the week beginning 4th January 2021 and will provide online learning for all pupils.

Schools are required to make appropriate provision for leaners who are considered to be vulnerable and this may include attendance at school for some pupils. All schools are also required to make in-school provision for the children of critical workers where alternative childcare is genuinely not available. It is essential that critical workers, as defined by Welsh Government, are able to fulfil their roles whilst schools are providing learning digitally.

Each school will be contacting parents to identify which children may need to continue to attend school during this time. The legislation requires schools to make childcare available as a minimum from 8.30am to 4.00pm. Working within the regulations set out by Welsh Government, critical worker provision will be in place in Flintshire schools no later than Wednesday 6th January. Schools are not required to make provision if it is a designated school training day.

The decision when to move schools back to face to face learning will not be made until the 6th January when the local data around the virus has been analysed and the level of risk determined. This will be communicated to parents as quickly as possible. The Council’s aim is to return to face to face learning as quickly as possible, but only when it is safe to do so.

We appreciate this information is coming to you at very short notice but the Council has only been made aware of Welsh Government’s position within the last 24 hrs. Children entitled to Free School Meals will continue to receive direct payments for the period of remote learning. More details around catering arrangements for children who need to attend school either as a vulnerable learner or for childcare arrangements will be communicated as quickly as possible. Once schools have determined their opening arrangements for January, as some have scheduled training days, we will also be able to communicate arrangements for those who are eligible for school transport and need to assess if they will be physically attending school for the reasons outlined above.

It is our expectation that all learners will receive the same learning offer from their school whether they are at home and engaged in remote learning or whether they need to be physically in the building.

Whilst we appreciate that this decision may cause some anxieties and there may be some unanswered questions, we are working at speed with our headteachers on this last day of the term to put things in place for a smooth and safe start to the new year and will continue to provide parents and carers with information via letters from schools and on our website www.flintshire.gov.uk

    Yours sincerely

    Claire Homard

  • Statement from Kirsty Williams

    Tue 24 Mar 2020

Statement from Kirsty Williams, Minister for Education following Boris Johnson's update last night (23/3/2020)

I’d like to thank parents for listening to the advice and keeping most children at home. I’d be grateful if tomorrow morning you only use schools or childcare as a last resort. The advice has not changed as a result of tonight’s decision to further restrict movement, which our First Minister, along with other UK leaders took with the sole aim of slowing the spread of coronavirus. Children should be at home wherever possible, critical workers will still need to have safe care arrangements for their children. Our schools and childcare settings are providing a vital service to support critical workers and our most vulnerable children. Those involved in the current arrangements looking after children should continue. Many thanks to our amazing teaching and childcare professionals for their commitment in this time of national need. This situation will continue for the immediate term but we will be reviewing with healthcare professionals, local authorities and our teaching unions.

  • Important information about schools in Flintshire

    Sun 22 Mar 2020

Important information regarding schools in Flintshire

Flintshire County Council has taken the decision that all schools who are able to should open on Monday 23 March to make provision for children whose parents are vital workers, where they are either:

    · A single parent vital worker; or

    · Both parents are vital workers

This provision will be in place initially for one week. Further updates on the weeks after will be provided as soon as possible.

The expectation is that any child who can safely be cared for at home should be and it is in exceptional circumstances that they will need to access this provision. This is important as the purpose of school closure is ultimately to reduce social contact.

We are planning for schools to be open between 8.00am – 5.30pm. Parents should regularly check the status of their local school by accessing their own school’s website along with the Flintshire School Closure website (flintshire.gov.uk/schoolclosures) for updates. This page will be regularly updated. If your school is not one that is planning to open, then you should contact the school to discuss alternative arrangements.

Catering will be provided to all children who attend.

The school transport network will continue to operate all next week at the usual times (i.e school hours) for the children of vital workers should parents need to access it. Parents should contact school.transport@flintshire.gov.uk if they have any queries.

It is important that children do not sit together on the transport and should sit on separate rows to reduce social contact.

Schools will continue to adhere to the latest WG and Public Health Wales advice and guidance when considering their provision, particularly with regard to social distancing and self-isolation, see link below:
