Minutes from Pupil Parliament Meeting – 02.12.21

Actions from Previous Meeting

  • Promote Non-School Uniform Day on 19.11.21 to raise money for Children in Need
    • Pupil Parliament members reported to their class peers the total raised for Children in Need - £235! Diolch pawb for all your support.

  • Pupil Parliament Neighbour Buddies – share a Pupil Parliament book to record ideas and bring to each meeting.
    • All pupil parliament members attended the meeting with their book with ideas for future developments. Members discussed ideas with peers and wrote them down to share in today’s meeting.
    •
  • To design and create a Pupil Parliament display which represents our values and our aims as a team.
    • Pupils have been designing and creating a Pupil Parliament board which represent the Parliament building in Cardiff. The display is due to be completed this week.

Ideas from peers:

  • The 4 Key Purposes Character competition – to create a character to represent each purpose of the new curriculum. Competition entries to be discussed 16.12.21
  • We would like friendship buddies outside on the yard. If they had a high visibility jacket and were trained up to support children outside, this would mean all children would feel they had a friend to talk to and someone to help them.
  • Pupils wanted to ensure all Foundation Phase children had two options for lunch, a meat and a vegetarian option. I clarified this is the case and all children have the option to opt for a vegetarian dish.
  • Bring Your Pet to School Day – Parliament discussed the pros and cons of bringing your pet to school. Due to allergies and safety, they decided this may not be possible. However, they compromised on a ‘Love Your Pet Day’ where we would celebrate the love and care for our animals, through picture sharing, presentations and videos. This will be discussed further and planned for the Spring Term.
  • Cooking Classes – as restrictions start to ease, parliament members would like to plan cooking sessions for all classes. This will be shared with classes and planned in for the Spring Term.
  • Go Carts – Parliament members think using the Go Carts would benefit their health and well-being in Key Stage 2. They would like to make the activity as safe as possible, by ensuring there are clear rules in place, a safe zone and a risk assessment completed.
  • Google Classroom set up to share information with parliament members.
  •

Next Steps:

  • Love your Pet Day - Action Plan and what we want to achieve from the day.
  • Go Cart – Rules and Risk Assessment
  • Google Classroom code shared with pupils
